How sports arbitrage calculations work

Arbitrage betting (surebets) occurs when bookmakers disagree on the odds for an event, creating a scenario where the sum of the implied probabilities across all outcomes is less than 100%. By placing opposing bets on all outcomes across different bookmakers, you lock in a guaranteed profit no matter who wins.

Two-outcome markets: Ideal for sports with only two results, such as tennis match winners, basketball moneyline, darts, or over/under goals and points markets.

Worked example

Tennis Two-Outcome Arb

On a tennis match with a £200 total budget, Bookmaker A offers odds of 2.15 on Player 1, and Bookmaker B offers 2.05 on Player 2.

The calculator determines stakes of £97.62 on Player 1 and £102.38 on Player 2. Both outcomes return £209.88, locking in a guaranteed net profit of £9.88 (+4.94% ROI) regardless of the match result.

Matched betting

Back stake: the amount placed with the bookmaker. Enter decimal odds for the same selection at the bookmaker and exchange.

Commission: your exchange’s rate. Liability: the balance needed to cover your lay bet.

Staking modes: Standard balances both outcomes equally. Underlay aims for £0 loss if the bookmaker back bet wins. Overlay aims for £0 loss if the exchange lay bet wins.
